About
I have always possessed an unquiet mind.
Since I can remember, I’ve always been thinking, imagining, analyzing, hypothesizing, wondering about things that surround me. I have always held an extreme reverence and respect for all things quality, especially for those which are made by hand. This likely stems from my Grandmother Janet, who was a stern believer in quality over quantity, she hated junk, and I hate junk. My younger self thought that a Blacksmith must be pinnacle of this principle, “how could they not be?” I thought. And to this day I still believe this to be so.
Growing up in Southern California in a suburban house with my family, there wasn’t very many opportunities (or proper space) for me to pursue my desire to create, at no fault of anyone, it was just the reality of my situation. I’m grateful beyond measure for my upbringing, and the tolerance of my parents and peers in spite of me having been a chaotic, destructive and reckless kid who was more likely to burn the house down than to finish his homework on any given day.
At every opportunity, I took the chance to create something, anything, even if it was as small as modifying a guitar part, repairing a cassette deck, modifying bikes, fixing tools, or whittling, ANYTHING I could do with my hands, whatever I could get my paws on, I was in.
Unlike most who have started this craft in recent years, I didn’t find myself inspired by Blade/Weaponsmithing at a young age. I had always wanted to create tools and everyday items that bring value outside of how effectively they can turn one thing into two. I wanted to make things that people had in their homes or shops that brought them real tangible daily value, things that have soul and solve problems or bring joy.
Since then, I have moved to a new state, assembled my own forge + shop, and have a decade of hoarded tools ready to go.
Finally I can fly free.
Even my Sister can’t visit without getting her hands dirty
